In 2019/20, we set the ambition to reach zero accidents involving our people by 2029/30. To achieve this, our Target Zero programme aims to implement measures that continuously improve performance and prevent avoidable incidents.
Health and safety (H&S) is a fundamental part of how we do the right thing, and our Target Zero ambition is driven by a holistic programme that empowers our people to take shared ownership of safe behaviours. In 2024/25, we continued to promote our safety-first culture with the following activities:
- We implemented a Group behaviour-based safety campaign requiring all employees that conduct manual handling activities, such as lifting and carrying, to be observed while doing so to give immediate feedback and eliminate any behaviours that may result in future incidents.
- We introduced a leadership inspection form to be completed by all leaders travelling to a new site and conducted H&S audits of our largest distribution sites to continue to identify, monitor and develop action plans for sites with a higher risk profile.
- We continued our near miss reporting campaigns to encourage our people to identify and report unsafe acts, hazards and near misses, which are all investigated to ensure corrective and preventative actions are put in place.
- Employees completed close to 27,000 hours of comprehensive H&S training aligned to best practice and we introduced over 170 safety moments – brief reminders covering key H&S topics to be shared at the start of Group team meetings.
