  • RS Components supports first UK and European Hackaday Unconference

DesignSpark is exclusive sponsor of free event for hackers and engineers – to be held in London on Saturday 16 September

Oxford, UK, 13 September 2017 - RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, is supporting the first ever ‘Hackaday UK Unconference’ via its DesignSpark engineering community as the exclusive headline sponsor. The event is aimed at hackers, designers and engineers, and particularly those that are members of the Hackaday community. Hackaday is a blog that publishes several articles every day about hardware and software hacks. A hack refers to modifications of products or software, as well as the creation of something entirely new for convenience, novelty or for functional reasons.

Hackaday has already held a number of ‘unconferences’ in various cities in the US, including Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco, however this is the first of these types of events to be held in the UK or in Europe. An unconference is a conference without an agenda or predetermined topics. While there is a high-level theme, the topics are generated by attendees at the event itself, meaning the event is an excellent method to capture what is happening in the hardware world at that moment in time.

Like all of the DesignSpark software tools and design support resources – available at designspark.com – the support from RS and DesignSpark has enabled the event to be hosted at an excellent venue with free admission to all attendees. Tickets were in extremely high demand and sold out within 24 hours; however, interested attendees can be added to a waiting list at: www.eventbrite.com/e/hackaday-uk-unconference-tickets-36589469087?aff=waitlist

“We are proud to be supporting this first ever Hackaday Unconference to be held in the UK and Europe,” said Mike Bray, Vice President of DesignSpark at RS. “The unconference concept is a unique one that should help to create an extra dimension to the event that encourages fun, innovation, collaboration and creativity. All of this makes the event an excellent complement to the DesignSpark concept.”

The event will take place on Saturday 16 September 2017 from 13:00 to 21:00 at the Canada Water Culture Space in London.
