  • RS launches Connected Thinking to help organisations improve procurement efficiency

Sharing better working practices that yield significant savings for businesses

Oxford, UK, 20 October 2016 - RS Components (RS), the trading brand of Electrocomponents plc (LSE:ECM), the global distributor for engineers, has today launched a new website, Connected Thinking – a hub of information, advice and best practice providing organisations with inspiration and practical insight on the topic of MRO (Maintenance Repair and Operations) procurement. This further demonstrates its commitment to helping customers make savings through efficient procurement, following its initial independently verified research with Manchester Business School into this area.

Connected Thinking will feature sector and RS experts, experts from professional bodies such as the Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply Chain (CIPS) and Cranfield School of Management - amongst others - plus customer testimonials highlighting the benefits of supplier collaboration and effective procurement. Connected Thinking will plug the current gap in the industry for MRO specific content presented in a fresh, engaging and professional way.

Klaus Göldenbot, President of RS Industrial, explained: "The launch of Connected Thinking demonstrates that at RS, we don’t simply supply customers with products; we help identify better working practices that will achieve sustainable efficiencies. Procurement of products for MRO makes up just 20 per cent of a firm’s overall procurement cost, so is often not a prime area of focus for cost savings. However, they may feel differently if they were to learn that the ratio of procurement versus product cost was actually 2:1.

"We want to help drive procurement efficiency for business. The content that we are producing is aimed at the procurement professional, providing insight on leadership, collaboration and strategy on MRO, business, industry and procurement topics," he added.

In 2014, RS conducted research, independently verified by Manchester Business School, using its unrivalled customer consumption data to identify key strategies where customers could achieve significant savings on MRO procurement. It is this research and the principles that underpin Connected Thinking.
